Complications From Gastric Bypass Proceedure Possible complications from a Gastric Bypass Operation may be as such. 1)Nausea, vomiting, bloating and/or heartburn caused by: Drinking cold fluids Not chewing food well enough Eating too much Eating too quickly Using drinking straws Eating rich or sweet foods Eating gas producing foods Drinking carbonated beverages 2)Dumping Syndrome This happens when food is dumped from the stomach into the intestine . This may result in a feeling of nausea, weakness,abdominal fullness and a rapid pulse. 3) Overeating The entire purpose of receiving a gastric bypass is to limit the ability to eat large portions of food. Constant over eating will cause your stomach to stretch and tear the staple line. This is why conforming to the prescribed diet is so important. 4) Blocking The Stoma The opening made by the surgery is much smaller than the one it replaced. If a person were not to chew food well enough you can cause a blockage. This can cause complications.
