Fad Diet
A fad diet is more often than not the latest marketing scheme that is currently on the market. A characteristic of a fad diet is that there is a promise to lose weight quickly and you must follow rigid eating requirements. Fad diets that are common today, to name a few, are The Atkins Diet, The Cabbage Soup Diet and The Cookie Diet. The problem with fad diets is not that you will not lose weight because more often than not the weight will drop off fairly fast. The problem that occurs in almost 100% of those who participate is that they grow tired of the food selection and return to their familiar eating habits. When they return the weight that has been lost is gained back very rapidly. A side effect is that the human body will gain not only the weight that has been lost, but also will also add on a few extra pounds. Fad diets should be avoided as the best way to lose weight is by a sensible eating plan combined with correct portion size and exercise. You do not need to starve yourself and you do not need to be able to run a marathon. You just need to avoid fad diets and be sensible in what you eat and get some regular exercise. |
